Pat hands over the reins at Tamar View to Jill Singh
Exciting news from Tamar View at the heart of Barne Barton. With funding from the Tudor Trust for the next two years Tamar View has appointed Jill Singh as the new general manager.
Jill brings with her a wealth of experience of working with communities and an extensive network which will benefit residents of the Estate.
The current manager at Tamar View, Pat Patel, who has run the complex since 1997 said: “After running the complex for almost 20 years I have decided to hand over to bring fresh ideas and a new sense of purpose to the centre and to develop new initiatives which will enhance what is already on offer.
“I will for a short period continue to support Jill in her new role after which my efforts on behalf of the community will focus on developing the assets to bring in additional income streams”.
Jill is already planning ‘natter with a cuppa’ sessions on the first and third Fridays of each month which will run between 1.30pm and 3pm. The first session is on October 20 when she will be encouraging the community to come talk to her to find out what they would like from the centre during the day. Refreshments will be available during these sessions.
Other ideas include a Tamar View Healthy Mums club which would offer taster sessions of yoga, baby exercise classes etc which would run six weeks at a time to keep in with term dates. Jill is also looking to restart the cookery sessions within the Community Resource Centre and is currently exploring the opening of a Credit Union collection point at Tamar View.
Jill said: “I am pleased to have been given the opportunity to work on the Barne Barton estate and to continue the excellent work that Pat has been doing for the local area. I am looking forward to meeting the Barne Barton community and building strong links with everyone.”
Pat said: “In Jill’s previous job, she built up a significant knowledge of many organisations and individuals in the Plymouth area that will enable her to continue working with the local population here on the estate.
“Jill has plenty of ideas to utilise spare capacity in the Tamar View Community Centre which will raise the profile and better use the facilities which will benefit both the local Barne Barton and Plymouth communities.”
He continued by saying, “I hope the community, organisations and service providers from Barne Barton will welcome Jill into her new role here at Tamar View.”
